Portrait of 3710 Private Francis Edmund Bilton, 5th Battalion. Note the cat curled up asleep in the corner.
This is one of a series of photographs taken by the Darge Photographic Company which had the concession to take photographs at the Broadmeadows and Seymour army camps during the First World War. In the 1930s, the Australian War Memorial purchased the original glass negatives from Algernon Darge, along with the photographers’ notebooks. The notebooks contain brief details, usually a surname or unit name, for each negative.

"These strings are alive!"
Our cat Guapo (Handsome) in his pin-striped suit. He loved to play with the vibrating strings, feeling the buzz and hearing the odd sounds that would come out of the amplifier’s speaker. I did encourage him to play and Guapo would sometimes entertain us with his musical concerts. He didn’t sound that great but he played with energy! Quality on this is a bit rough, though. I was still a newcomer to Flickr back then. (Thanks All for 25, 842 Views of this image as of February 4th, 2011)
