Cat Nap on Shrine

I was out on a photowalk with a buddy and we came across a small shrine hidden away, blocked from view by some huge bushes. Shrines like this are great—they are like some hidden treasure: quiet, peaceful oases from the noise and busyness of the city. So we were already enjoying the shrine because of that, but then we spotted this cat taking a nap on the shrine itself.

Cats seem to be very common at shrines and temples around Japan—at least at all the shrines and temples that I’ve visited. I’m not sure if that is because there are a lot of homeless cats in general in Japan or if there is another reason. Regardless, this one found himself a nice place to nap.
